Plans and usage

Every Guidely workspace is on a plan, and every plan includes every feature: guides, checklists, surveys, the help center, Scout, how-tos, complaints, product analytics, session replay, heatmaps, funnels, error tracking and feature flags.

Four products are metered. Each has a free allowance every month:

New workspaces start on Free. There's no credit card and no time limit. The pricing page has a calculator that estimates your monthly bill.

Pay-as-you-go prices

Prices are graduated: each tier's rate applies only to the units inside that tier. All prices are in USD, before tax.

Scout answers are free when the project uses its own Anthropic API key (Scout settings): you pay Anthropic directly instead.

For example, 5,000,000 analytics events in a month cost $200: the first million are free and the other 4 million cost $50 per million.

What counts

Usage is counted per workspace, across all of its projects and environments (development, staging and production). An event the SDK resends (after a network error, for example) is stored once and counted once.

Analytics events:

EventSent by
page_view, page_leavePage analytics (automatic)
click, rage_clickClick autocapture
heatmapHeatmaps
customYour own track() calls
experiment_viewedFeature flag experiments

exception events count as errors. A session recording counts once, when its first part is stored.

These events are always free and never limited:

  • Guides: guide_viewed, guide_started, step_viewed, step_completed, guide_completed, guide_skipped, guide_dismissed, guide_abandoned
  • Checklists: checklist_task_completed, checklist_completed, checklist_dismissed
  • Surveys: survey_displayed, survey_submitted, survey_dismissed
  • Help center and Scout: resource_center_opened, article_viewed, messenger_opened, conversation_started, conversation_handed_off, scout_answered
  • identify

To use less, turn off what you don't need under Settings → Privacy & data (click autocapture, heatmaps, error tracking or session replay). Nothing is stored or counted for a capability that is switched off.

Billing limits

On pay as you go you can set a monthly billing limit for each product under Settings → Plan & usage. A limit is in whole dollars and covers what that product can cost in a month; the free allowance comes on top. Leave it blank for no limit.

When a product reaches its limit it stops recording until the 1st, so the bill never goes past it. Raise or remove the limit and recording resumes straight away.

When a product runs out

When a product's free allowance (on Free) or billing limit (on pay as you go) is used up, only that product pauses until the 1st:

  • Product analytics: page views, clicks, heatmaps, custom events and experiment exposures aren't recorded.
  • Session replay: new sessions aren't recorded. Recordings already under way finish, and the SDK stops starting new ones within a few minutes.
  • Error tracking: errors aren't captured.
  • Scout AI answers: Scout stops answering with AI, and new questions go straight to your team inbox.

Events sent in the meantime are dropped, not queued, so they don't come back later. The SDK keeps working and doesn't retry them. The SDK's POST /api/v1/sdk/events response includes overLimit with the number of events in the batch that weren't recorded; it is left out when nothing was dropped.

Guides, checklists, surveys and the help center keep working normally. Their events are free, so completions, dismissals and survey answers are always recorded and guides never reappear because their events were dropped.

We tell you before and when it happens:

  • At 80% of a product's allowance or limit, the workspace's owners and admins get an email, so there's time to upgrade or raise the limit.
  • When it runs out, they get a second email, and every page of the dashboard shows what's paused, with a link to fix it.

Each email goes out at most once a month per product. If you upgrade or change a limit, they can go out again against the new one.

Guide limit on Free

A Free workspace can have up to 20 guides, checklists and surveys in total, across all of its projects. Drafts, published and paused guides count; archived guides don't. Help articles and how-tos aren't limited.

At the limit you can't create, duplicate or unarchive another guide until you archive or delete one, or switch to pay as you go. Guides you already have keep working and can still be edited and published.

Checking your usage

Open Settings → Plan & usage in any project of the workspace. It shows your plan, each product's usage this month against its allowance or limit, what it has cost so far on pay as you go, how many guides you have on Free, and anything that wasn't recorded after a product ran out.

Usage resets on the 1st of each month (UTC). Unused allowance doesn't roll over.

Switching to pay as you go

Workspace admins and owners switch under Settings → Plan & usage → Add a card, on Stripe's secure checkout page. Nothing is charged at checkout. Products that had paused on Free resume as soon as the card is added, and the free analytics tier goes up to 1,000,000 events a month.

Pay-as-you-go invoices go out on the 1st of each month for the month before, charged to the card on file. A month that stays inside the free allowance costs $0. Under Plan & usage you can also Manage billing to update your card, change billing details, download invoices and receipts, or cancel. A cancelled subscription continues until the end of the month, then the workspace moves back to Free.

If a payment fails, Stripe retries it over the following days and the dashboard asks you to update your card; you stay on pay as you go meanwhile. If the payments still fail, the subscription ends and the workspace moves to Free.

For Enterprise (volume pricing, annual invoicing, a security review or an SLA), send a request from Plan & usage and we'll get back to you by email, usually within one business day.
